A Celebration of Texas Governors was an adventure into the life and times of current and past governors of the Lone Star State. From Sam Houston to Rick Perry, the event offered a rare view of priceless documents and artifacts from the governor's office.

The Texas Governors Political History Collection of The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin has a wealth of documents, photographs, and artifacts that were on display for the first time. The papers of Governors Sam Houston, Miriam Ferguson, Oscar Colquitt, William P. Hobby, James S. Hogg, Ann Richards, and Dolph Briscoe were just a few of the papers that were part of the celebration and exhibit.

On April 23, 2009, the Friends of John Garner Museum welcomed Governor Rick Perry and former Governor Mark White as they offered insights into the life of a Texas governor and offered birthday greetings to Governor Briscoe. The event was attended by over 300 guests and raised more than $74,000 for the Friends of John Garner Museum.
